Mixing the new songs
Quick update: we’re in the studio mixing about 10-12 new songs…so far so good! We have some edits here and there but overall we’re happy with how the songs are progressing. Now the problem is we recently wrote a great new song that we think will fit great on the album, so we’ll have to decide whether it’s worth it to go back in the studio to record it…that always seems to happen…just when you least expect a new melody just comes out of nowhere…sometimes you just have to embrace it.

In the studio recording
We just finished up our first full weekend in the recording studio at Wellspring Sound in Acton, MA! It was such a fun time being in the studio…we got through the basic parts of about 10 new songs (We still have guitar and drums to add on). I still can’t believe how smooth everything went, usually its a much longer process, but Masami (violin), Kristy (cello), Afton (vocals), and Kimon (bass) were all so incredibly professional in the studio, in fact, I think we hardly had more than 3 takes through each song.
With the way we were all set up in the studio, each of us in our own little isolated booth, I thought it was going to be challenging to connect with each other emotionally using eye contact for cues etc. but we each had these huge headphones on and we could hear eachother’s instrument and voices so clearly it was like we were closer than if we were all in the same room…almost even more intimate. I think we ran out of steam a little at the end of the two days but it was a good kind of tired…because we knew we had created something special. We’re going to play a couple shows in July to celebrate our first successful weekend of recording. Hope to see you at one of them. -W

Introducing the new band!
Hi everybody…so I want to take a second and introduce to you the new band! First off, on violin, the amazing Masami Rodriguez, the only person I know that can transcribe an entire song note for note (all parts) on sheet music in the car on the way to a gig ….next, on vocal harmonies, the incredible Afton Cotton, the only person I know that can juggle a full time job, a Masters degree at Harvard, a canning business, and a band at the same time, and finally our most recent addition to the band, on cello, the incomparable Kristy Foye, the only person I know that can conduct an entire orchestra and still have the energy to play a gig with the band the same night. So that’s our new band called “ Walter and the Night Owls ”. We’ll be playing some shows around Boston while we’re gearing up to record our debut full length album beginning of July.
